Indicatie

Aanvullend diervoeder voor honden met:

  • Plaque- en tandsteenaccumulatie
  • Halitose (slechte adem) door volatile sulfur compounds
  • Beginnende parodontale aandoening (PD1–PD2, gingivitis)
  • Postoperatief onderhoud na professionele scaling/COHAT
  • Risicorassen (klein ras, brachycephalie) en honden waarbij dagelijks tandenpoetsen niet haalbaar is
Werkingsprincipe

Combineert drie complementaire aangrijpingspunten op het orale ecosysteem:

  1. Systemische biofilm-inhibitie — gehydrolyseerd Ascophyllum nodosum levert fucoïdan, ascophyllan en polyfenolen die na orale opname via het speeksel worden uitgescheiden. Salivaire metabolome-verschuivingen remmen pellicle-vorming en bacteriële adhesie op het tandoppervlak.
  2. Orale microbioom-modulatie — L. helveticus HA-122 (postbioticum) en E. faecium NCIMB 10415 reduceren plaque-bacteriën via competitieve uitsluiting en bacteriocine-productie; FOS uit cichoreiwortel ondersteunt indirect via de gut-oral axis.
  3. Antimicrobieel + halitose-reductie — menthol/menthonen uit Mentha piperita en 1,8-cineol uit Eucalyptus globulus zijn in vitro actief tegen Porphyromonas gingivalis en Fusobacterium nucleatum en verlagen volatile sulfur compounds.

Toedieningsvorm: poeder dagelijks over de voeding gestrooid — geschikt voor honden waarbij chews of tandenpoetsen niet haalbaar zijn.

Klinische toepassing
  • Adjuvans bij dagelijks tandenpoetsen (gold standard): synergetisch effect op plaque/calculus-reductie
  • Alternatief wanneer poetsen niet haalbaar is (klein gebit, weerstand, eigenaarscompliantie)
  • Postoperatief onderhoud na COHAT/scaling: vertraagt recidief van plaque/calculus
  • Preventie bij risicorassen vanaf jonge leeftijd
VERWACHT EFFECTKlinisch zichtbare reductie van halitose en plaque-accumulatie typisch na 4–8 weken continue toediening. Combineren met VOHC-erkende dental chews en jaarlijkse COHAT optimaliseert de uitkomst.
CONTRA-INDICATIESAscophyllum nodosum bevat 300–1.200 ppm jodium; bovengrens 170 µg I/kg/dag respecteren. Voorzichtigheid bij hyperthyreoïdie, jodium-gevoeligheid of thyroidale medicatie — eventueel periodieke T4-monitoring overwegen. Geen vervanging voor professionele scaling/COHAT bij gevestigde parodontitis (PD2+) of voor radiografische evaluatie. Beperkte data tijdens dracht/lactatie.

  • Beste effect: sprenkel poeder op droogvoer; vermijd opmenging met nat voer (verminderde mechanische plaque-inwerking).
  • Vervangt geen professionele dentale behandeling bij gevorderde parodontitis (PD3-PD4).
